As a 28th round pick
It is a no brainer. For you to think he is a solid #2 or #3, I'll say closer to #3, and maybe worse...

The strikeout rate is awesome, and I like the peripherals... but I have a strong feeling that at 31 years old, he has nowhere to go but down.

12 wins, 3.6 ERA, 180 Ks, 1.28 WHIP are in the cards, I think... and for a 28th rounder, that is amazing.

Worth keeping?
All his numbers indicate he would be a solid #2-3 SP in fantasy. Am I wrong? I am debating whether to keep him in a league. Would cost me a 28th round pick only. My other options are J. Hellickson for a 23rd round pick, either Andres Torres, E. Volquez or Brett Myers for a 28th rounder, or B. Lidge for a 17th round pick.

my thinking
the guy was pretty bad in brief stints in the majors... so he headed to Japan, where he was a stud...

I'm not sold just yet. Personally, I think he learned quite a bit in Japan, but I see his long term value as a set-up man. In Japan, he struck out just over a guy per inning, which (as you can see in 2007) was a nice improvement from 2007.

I'm thinking he is at the phase where the scouting reports are slim on him (and outdated, without the new stuff he learned in Japan). Once the scouting reports are more concise, expect big time regression - especially in Texas.

Looks awesome!
Hey Rob,

What do you think about Lewis? Hitters ballpark, especially during the summer, but he has been awesome and at a bottom of the barrel price. He has a great lineup to support good win totals, his FIP is right in line with his ERA, has a close to league avg strand rate and awesome K rate. The BABIP is a bit low, but is not outrageous like some other pitchers (i.e. P. Hughes!). Thanks!

Brian
