Hi LJ! Welcome to the message boards.

I'm not saying Dice won't be good... I'm just saying he will be worse.

I expect him to be pretty much the same pitcher he was in 2007. For strikeouts and wins, this is very nice.

For everything else, it is not very nice.

Every time a batter hit a ball in play (BABIP) last season, it only went through for a hit 20.8% of the time. For pitchers with 150 IP or more, the league average last season was 25.9%. As the link, below, notes... the Red Sox pitchers (including Dice in the mix) had a team BABIP of .241.

Doesn't look good for Dice, if you think you're getting the same beast as last year.

A regression most likely?
Is Dice-K's 2008 ERA a reasonable possibility for 2009? Not if you look at his BABIP. Take a look at this blog entry (at the bottom) for some details.
