as far as i am concerned...
a full season with a line of 18-20 and a .290 batting average is entirely reasonable... and based upon the fact that people are snagging up 2B early with the improper notion that 2B is a slim position, Barmes is an EXCELLENT option.

Ian doesn't steal... and he won't hit for as good an average... Barmes and Stewart's power numbers aren't that far off, actually, so Barmes wins in fantasy AND real life, as far as I'm concerned.

barmes....tweener
i think some of Barmes' stats are leading to hope. i think his situation is less appealing than it first seems...
i don't like the low obp% he's had at all levels- it usually predicts a short pro career unless the player has outstanding power or speed.
Barmes' 09' set up looks good to start with. i just wonder if a team as lacking as the Rockies in starting pitching won't go young with Ian Stewart after they fall out of the race. unfortunately, they could be out of the race in June if the lineup can't make up for losing Holliday...
i find his upside to be quite limited.

sleeper?
Barmes seems to be ignored in most drafts and he is available in a league where I could use a backup MI. I think he has 15-15 potential with decent average. Do you like Barmes as a sleeper? It seems like he will start at 2B and is hitting great this spring. However, I worry that he will still platoon a bit with some of the other bench players they have.
