ridiculous BABIP numbers make his last two brief stints in the bigs look like he is a lock for .300+

On the positive, he was a .300+ hitter in 4 minor league seasons, but just barely (.308). And, he is rule of 27. So, he is unlike your average rookie.

There is some power potential, so if you are desparate in the NL only, I'd say the gamble is reasonable... absent that, unless I was absolutely desperate for average, I stay clear.
