sure, he can improve
He is a good option in NL only leagues, I think... in multi-leagues, 12 teams or less, I probably avoid him unless I am desperate for stolen bases.

I picked him up in one of my leagues last year when I was desperate, and he was definitely no game changer... he kept my mediocre team pretty mediocre.

The fact that he is young and is at a slim position makes him mildly attractive.

Of the three you list, I would keep Soto...

/podcasts coming soon! thanks for asking

Thoughts?
Hey Rob,

What are your thoughts on Desmond? He will initially bat 2nd for the Nats. If he can stay there all year, his counting stats could be very solid. Can he improve? SS is a shallow position and I am deciding between keeping him as a 19th round pick or keeping JP Arrencibia as a 28th rounder. I also could keep Geovany Soto as a 13th rounder. If I don't, I could keep both Arrencibia and Desmond, but I know I can get good production from Soto.

Also, are you doing your pre-draft ranking podcasts this year? I always look forward to those as do others who follow your work.

Hope all is well! Thank you for a great site!

Brian

as an endgame pick...
worth the gamble, but I'm not a big fan... plus is that he is young... but he has has 6 minor league seasons, mostly in single A... and his career minor league avg? .259

22 professional steals last season, mostly in the minors, is interesting... but only 1 attempt in 82 Abs last season in the MLB makes me wonder if he'll been given the green light all that much in Washington.

starter
I forgot to mention, just in case people don't know. He has been named the starting SS. Whether he holds on to the job all yr is another question.

sleeper?
Hey Rob,

What are your thoughts on this kid? I know there is little data at the major league level, but I feel like 12-15 HRs and 25 steals is a possibilty with .270 BA. 14 Ks in 82 AB's in limited action suggests he wasn't overmatched by major league pitching. Your thoughts? Is he a guy you would consider late in a keeper league?

Thanks! I have enjoyed your podcasts!
