I never thought I would see the day when Rob would caution us on Hank Blalock.

as I can't see him getting enough ABs to get warm... and to be much of an impact player... he is backup to Carlos Pena, backup to Evan Longoria, and backup to Pat Burrell (DH)...
It would take an injury to one of those three for my eyebrows to perk up... for now, I wait for that possibility before I put him on any of my rosters.

I am reserving final judgment on him until he gets signed by a team...
He only JUST turned 29. Still plenty of years ahead of him... and his career has been hampered by injury.
He suffered from bad luck in the hitting department in 2009, his walk year... and I sure this frustrated him to no end... again, going into 2010, his value is low.
His upside, however, is pretty huge.
He SHOULD have hit .270ish last year with average an BABIP. Given a full season if playing time in a decent hitting ballpark, and he is a lock for 30 HRs. The end game gamble is very much worth it on Hank no matter where he goes, as far as I am concerned.

my position on Blalock. And, now, Baseball HQ is on the record in their Friday newsletter that I received this morning... given a full season, or near full season, Blalock can be one of the best in the business. And, you can still get him late.
I'm so hyped on him, that I am considering keeping him for $7 in my auction money league. However, I'm leaning to "no," because I think he'll be there for the taking in the end game for $2 again.

Ranked higher than Miguel Cabrera?!?!?!?! |
As most of the users and readers here know, I use the rankings found here for my discussion and analysis on my baseballgeeks.com podcast.
And, interestingly enough, based on a prorated version of Hank Blalock's stats, PlayerTrack is more fond of Blalock than Cabrera?
Does this mean that Blalock should be drafted ahead of Cabrera?
Of course not!
Does this mean that given a full season and full health that Blalock could give Cabrera a run for his fantasy money?
I say absolutely.
FYI, I got Blalock for $2 in an auction draft in the endgame. I got him in the 14th round of a serpentine.
I expect 28+ HRs this year, .280+ BA, 90 R, and 100 RBI.

He's fallen off the map in the second half of the season seeminly every year & has shown little, if any, improvement. A rebound seems possible, especially hitting in Arlington, but don't bet your life on it.
