announces retirement
Goes from being ranked in the 30s to #114... not a bad time for this almost 39-year old to hang 'em up. Nice career, Andy! Thanks for the memories.

I don't know about Minute Maid Park being the cause of Andy's problems last year. He had a pretty hard time on the road as well. But I also would expect a good bounce back season in the bronx.

I think we can look for Pettitte to bounce back and have another big year in the Bronx. The biggest difference between the Pettitte of 2 years ago that ranked among the NL's best and the league-average guy last year seems to be the increase of home runs. Sometimes that's a sign of a pitcher's declining stuff, but Pettitte's strikeout rate remains basically unchanged from 2005 to 2006. I think a bigger factor in the sudden increase of surrendering the longball lies in the bandbox dimensions of Minute Maid park.

Left-handed pitchers have the edge at The Stadium to avoid facing lefty batters that try to take advantage of the short porch in right.

Pettitte had the 3rd worst BABIP (batting average on balls in play) for all Major League starters with at least 30 trips to the mound with a value of .333. Expect that number to return towards the league average of .300, dropping Pettitte's WHIP back down to the 1.10-1.20 range.

I think Pettitte is a guy you can buy low on after last season and get solid stats along with plenty of wins with that Yankee lineup. Plus, he's always looked better in the Pinstripes, anyways.
