Wright for Arod straight up |
Is this a keeper league? If so, then getting Wright sounds good to me if he isn't that expensive to keep for the next few years... both Arod and Wright were a few of the best in all of baseball, so it isn't an upgrade, per se, unless there is the keeper factor.
Arod has risk because of potential problems with his head from the steroid controversy... just like the guy trying to trade with you, I don't think Arod will have any probs this year, either.

I was just offered Wright for A-Rod straight up - any thoughts? I should say here that we count total bases and fielding percentage as well in our league (any way that could be added?)

Prorated rank is below his raw ranking... |
It is too early for me to decide if this means anything (being as I just added the graph function within the last week). Just making a note of it.
David is clearly one of the best in all of baseball... the only issue is that 3B is one of the most stacked positions in baseball going into 2009. So, the only question to ask is: is it worth it to pay $40+ for this guy when similar power numbers can be found for much cheaper?
Minor drop in career BABIP makes me think that a .320 season is once again a reasonable expectation for David in 2009.

The Fantasy Baseball Generals think that Wright will be the number one fantasy player in 2008. Wight has the perfect combination of power, speed and batting average ability. He has increased his BB rate, batting average, expected batting average and power in each year of his career and is peaking at the age of 25. 2008 could result in a 35/35 season with a .340 average and an MVP award. Long term, we believe he will be one of the five best third basemen if he remains healthy and will easily approach 3,000 hits. The sky is the limit for Wright and it will be a pleasure watching him over the coming years.

I always thought Arod was a bit overated. Yes, he puts up pretty good fantasy numbers, but he should be doing better when he makes 25 million a year. On top of that, he always chokes in the playoffs. He can't perform when the pressure is really on. He is a choke artist. Until he proves himself in the playoffs in pressure situations, you'll never convince me otherwise.

But A-Rod is better. And the second half last year shows he is mortal. I think I'd probably take Cabrera's sustained success over him, too, even if Wright did help me win one league last year. Question is, did he just get tired, or did everyone else figure something about him out?

Will be the best 3B in baseball this year statistically in my opinion!
