glass harden
returns to the pitcher's park in Oakland. Since PLAYERtrakc has been tracking players (2005), Harden has not posted more than 148 innings in a season.

This could be the season.

This being said, he is nothing but an end game flyer pick for me if I am desperate for pitching. Taxi squad gamble if I'm solid there.

now that he moves to the bandbox
in Arlington, all bets are off... he can't stay healthy, his stats regressed big time... and he is in a place where balls are hit like popcorn in the popcorn machine.

The upside is that he notoriously has low BABIPs in recent years, and it looked like a skillset. His BABIP last year was more like league average, which resulted in the higher numbers.

I can see progression in the ERA and WHIP stats... but the injury risk is too great for me to get excited. The Ks are great, which is why I will target him, but only as an endgame gamble.

if i had to guess...
the flu and some aches and pains have set him back a bit... injury at some point in time is probably a certainty, but I think he is so worth it... when he pitches, people just can't hit him...

Harden
So what do you make of his last few Spring starts? I heard in the radio this morning thats his fastball at the Yankee game was mid 80's at best hit 90 a few times?

2009 Cy Young winner?
From a blog entry I posted today on ERA and FIP at http://www.playertrack.com/blog.pl?7:

My predicted AL Cy Young winner in 2007 was derailed by injury. His effectiveness, however, has far from derailed. Harden is flat-out filthy. His average BABIP since 2005? .202!

PLAYERtrack ranks him as the 7th best pitcher in 2008. A career high 11.0 K/9 and 2.07 ERA makes him a very attractive starter. Injury risk is the issue, but I like Harden's chances of 180 innings in 2009 (has to happen some time, doesn't it?), which would make Harden a pretty certain top 10 pitcher, given his track record.

His FIP indicates that he is more of a low-3.00's ERA pitcher, but that is fine by me.

Rich Harden
I drafted Rich Harden last year. I still can't tell you what his injury really even was but it kept him out for pretty much the entire season. Rich Harden could win 25 games and the Cy Young this year but it won't be for me.

Glass Harden
A very knowledgable player in my money league is aiming for this guy as his top pitcher. I thought he would win the AL Cy Young last year.

I have a good feeling that this is his year.

Mark Prior all over again.
Add Harden to your porcelain doll collection! He is just another overhyped Mark Prior who won't stay healthy(like Mark Prior). Prediction: He'll be on & off the DL all season (like Mark Prior).
