Comments on: TOTS Tuesday: Tale of Two Seasons #5
by: Rob Reed | January 20, 2009, 10:22pm

This week's TOT is a pitcher who has shown signs of nice fantasy value, but who has suffered from injury... he did not play all of last season with a torn labrum that required surgery.

Yet, in 2006 (189.1 innings), he had a respectable WHIP or 1.28, and he followed it up with a 1.27 WHIP in 2007 in 195.2 innings. His average ERA from 2006 to 2007 was about 3.50. He also averaged a K/9 among those two seasons of about 7.

His FIP numbers? 3.31 in 2007. 3.61 in 2006.

See what I mean?

This is a hidden gem who is not getting drafted in any mock drafts right now; however, there is good reason. Rotoworld.com reported in early December, 2008 that this player may not be ready to play until the All-Star Break, and there is also the possibility that he may not pitch at all.

Still, this TOT is apparently rehabbing hard, wanting to try to get ready for Opening Day.

There has been talk of putting this starter in the bullpen... perhaps even closing.

Know who I'm talking about yet? No? This pitcher pitches for the Los Angeles Angels.

I would say it would be very wise to follow his rehab progress, as this is a guy on nobody's radar right now. I certainly will be watching.
