On the Big O Show, today, with Kevin Orris
by: Rob Reed | December 17, 2009, 12:44pm

At 1:00pm, PST, I'll be on the Big O Show @blogtalkradio. Kevin Orris and I will be chatting about a number of players, and what we can expect from them in 2010, and we will pay particular focus on why Carlos Baerga is NOT a viable fantasy option next season.

Kevin, it seems, thinks it is a "shame that [Baerga] isn't going to try to come back for 2010."

Lucky hitters in 2009
by: Rob Reed | December 10, 2009, 9:46am

The following were the "luckiest" hitters in all of baseball in 2009, using a PLAYERtrack search of contact rate (CR%-, worst to first), BABIP+ (highest to lowest), and AVG+ (highest to lowest). 300 minimum ABs.

This shows players who contacted the ball below league average (struck out a lot) and yet who were able to hit the baseball into the gaps substantially higher than league average.

1. David Wright, NYN, NL

535 AB, .307 AVG, .391 OBP, 88 R, 10 HR, 53.00 AB/HR, 72 RBI, 27 SB, 9 CS, .750 SB%, 140 K, 74 BB, 1.00 K/BB, .447 SLG%, 0.838 OPS, 73% CR%, .400... [read more]

The following players had the worst luck among all hitters in 2009 and should see a nice uptick in their batting averages and fantasy value in 2010. Minimum 100 ABs. PLAYERtrack ranking of contact rate, worst to first average, and worst to first BABIP.

1. Luis Rodriguez, CLE, AL

208 AB, .202 AVG, .322 OBP, 18 R, 2 HR, 104.0 AB/HR, 16 RBI, 1 SB, 0 CS, 1.00 SB%, 23 K, 37 BB, .622 K/BB, .260 SLG%, 0.582 OPS, 88% CR%, .219 BABIP, .058 ISO (801)

2. Eric Byrnes, ARZ, NL

239 AB, .226 AVG, .263 OBP, 26 R, 8 HR, 29.500 AB/HR, 31... [read more]

by: Rob Reed | November 25, 2009, 2:33pm

I still have some tweaks to do with some extra player entries in the mix that need to be extracted, but the latest results are now up.

Previous subscriptions have now expired. I will be notifying winners of the PLAYERTRACK/BASEBALLGEEKS fantasy leagues on how to get your free sub shortly.

If you have not heard from me, email me or post a comment!

Thanks and a Pat Chawki follow-up

Congrats to all on another fantasy baseball year completed. Congrats to Roger L. (MJM Heater) from Australia for winning the Inaugural PlayerTrack money league. He is the proud winner of $100, and the pride of beating a bunch of Americans who think they know the game of baseball.

The end of season update should be completed in the next few weeks, and you will be able to buy a new membership for the next season at that time. It will also be at that time that I will shift into high gear to prepare you for the 2010 season... [read more]
