Tale of Two Seasons #3: Does this guy qualify as "sleeper" for next year?
by: Rob Reed | January 6, 2009, 7:24pm

I can reveal to you right off the bat that this week's TOT is an outfielder, and this guessing game will still be difficult (unless, of course, you were a regular listener of the baseballgeeks.com podcast last year until the hiatus in late June).

This 28-year old has had some really amazing games, including two seven-RBI games in 2006, each played for different teams within the same season.

In 2007, he only played in 66 games due to a recurring hamstring injury that kept him out for one long, two-month stint. But, in these 66 games, this player was so good that... [read more]

PLAYERtrack's MPP's for 12-29-08 to 1-5-09
by: Rob Reed | January 5, 2009, 3:15pm

The following players are the most viewed player profiles (MPP = Most Popular Players) on the PLAYERtrack site for the week starting early 12-29-08 and ending early 1-5-09.

These rankings are a general indication of players who are generating high interest among baseball fans/fantasy players as these rankings are substantially the result of search engine searches (from google, etc.) that requested information on these players.

01. Johan Santana
02. Chris Iannetta
03. Ryan Doumit (9th last week)
04. Brett Gardner
05. Joba Chamberlain (6th last week)
06. Rich Harden (3rd last week)
07. CC Sabathia (1st last week)
08. Manny Ramirez
09. Chris Davis (4th last week)
10. Matt Wieters (10th last... [read more]

Playing around with the design...
by: Rob Reed | January 4, 2009, 6:16pm

Please bear with me while I play around with the design... should be completed with the new design of the site some time tomorrow. I also plan to do a podcast in the next few days, as well as add the ability to search FIP and BABIP for pitchers from best to worst and from worst to first.

Some of the CSS stuff is messy right now. Will be fixed tomorrow.

TOTS Tuesday: Tale of Two Seasons #2
by: Rob Reed | December 30, 2008, 12:08am

Happy New Year! The "Tale of Two Seasons" column will occur every Tuesday, where I will look at two straight seasons of a player's stats, and you guess who I am talking about...

In this week's Tale of Two Seasons, I focus on a 2008 stud rather than the goat that was Aaron Rowand in 2008.

In 2007, this TOT had a major crash and burn to his batting average -- a full 6.3% drop (.270, from .333). He had a power drop of 6 HRs and 1 RBI from 2006 to 2007, although he had 82 more ABs in... [read more]

Tale of Two Seasons (T.O.T.S.) #1
by: Rob Reed | December 27, 2008, 6:39pm

Welcome to the Tale of Two Seasons column, where I'll post a particular player's notable statistics from two different seasons, generally focusing on a notable improvement or crash. In the name of brevity, I'll be referring to these fellows as "TOTs."

Our first TOT pulled an "Adrian Beltre" in 2007, where he broke through the ranks of fantasy obscurity by conveniently tearing it up in a walk-off year. Then, he came back to return to fantasy disappointment.

After his 2007 breakout season, this TOT ended up signing a 5-year, $60 million dollar contract. His new team, obviously, was impressed by... [read more]
